I've never had a blog before. Any ideas people have would be appreciated.
The main thing I need to know is what to post. I would guess that anyone reading this blog (Mom) is doing so because they're interested in me (nobody else would know about it), but I would like the blog to be more about Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, and MCC, than about me. So what do you want to hear about? What are you most curious about? If I don't know the answer, I'll take the question as an opportunity for myself to learn more about the spectacular place I now live in.
Feedback, please. Thanks!

It's good to hear from you. I passed the link to your blog on to Roger & Cynthia. I can start by repeating a few questions I included in an e-mail:
ReplyDeleteAre there many Burkinabe of European (French) descent? Is the normal work week Monday-Friday? Are work days 9 to 5? Do they have traffic cops on major street corners or mostly stoplights? How far from work does your host family live? Do you get stared at?
People from church will also be interested in info on your host family: How many in family, names, ages of children, what your host parents do for a living, what the children are interested in. I think you mentioned that they have one son about your age. I'm curious about him.
They will also be interested in things about your daily routine.
This should keep you busy through a few postings. I hope things are going well.
I noticed that you posted this around 12 p.m. our time. If you don't mind, I might try messaging you on facebook some days whenever I eat lunch during the noon hour. If that is the best time. I hope you're learning a lot and having fun.
Dad
Your parents aren't the only ones interested in reading your blog! Your dad just shared the link with me. It's new to me, too, so I don't have any suggestions at the moment. Your dad has already given you some great ideas. I'll probably have questions along the way.

Hi Blake,
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about what Burkina Faso looks like--can you post pictures? What's your average day like? Where do you work? What's the food like? Have you studied French before, or are you picking it up as you go along? Also, Kamel the IVEPer from Egypt mentioned that you were his roommate at orientation. Based on the emails I've received from him, his IVEP year is off to a great start. I hope your SALT year is off to a good start as well.
Thanks for your comments and quesions! I'll try to respond to these in my next couple of posts.
